Guerrero tries to climb back in, but Lesnar hits him in the ribs again to knock him back to the floor. The eager Brock breaks the count and buys more time. Lesnar calls him on but Guerrero takes his time recovering. Another overhead belly-to-belly and Guerrero rolls out of the ring. Shots to the head, another knee to the ribs from Lesnar cuts it off. Guerrero with a shot to the gut as Lesnar hovers over him. Lesnar with a whip to the corner and a high knee. The match is saying it plenty in the early going. Overhead belly-to-belly! Commentary is a little heavy-handed about Guerrero being overmatched. Guerrero gets a boot up in the corner and goes for a flying rana, but Lesnar catches him in a power bomb position and just chucks him across the ring. Whip to the corner, Guerrero gets an elbow up and fires some right hands and some lefts with it. Lesnar with a shot to the gut, another follows.
Goldberg has beef with Lesnar from the Royal Rumble. Lesnar stomps and boot chokes Guerrero in the corner as part of the crowd chants for Goldberg, who has a ringside ticket given to him by Steve Austin on RAW. Guerrero smiles and shouts back, “Let’s get high, homes!” working off of his new statement that his high was feeding off the crowd. Lesnar yells, “You ain’t nothin’!” They lock up again, Lesnar shoves him down, yells it again. Lesnar shouts at him, they lock up and Lesnar drives him to the corner. “You’re not fighting the odds, Eddie, you’re fighting me.” The PPV-opening video package (well it’s after Sable and Torrie promote their Playboy cover) and the video package before the match are both must-watch if you’re going to watch this match.īell sounds, they circle around, Guerrero looking confident despite being massively undersized.
Eddie won a Smackdown Royal Rumble to win the shot at Lesnar’s WWE title and was booked as the ultimate underdog, someone who had overcome demons in and out of the ring.
